The Monopol occupies an 18th-century colonial mansion in the pedestrianised heart of Puerto de la Cruz old town, one block from Plaza del Charco. The internal courtyard — with its original carved wooden galleries, tropical plants, and small pool — is one of the most atmospheric hotel spaces in the Canary Islands. Rooms are classically decorated and vary in size; the corner rooms with old-town views are worth the modest upgrade. The hotel is family-run and the staff have worked there for years — service is personal and knowledgeable. This is not a resort hotel: it's a characterful base for exploring the real north Tenerife.
